Implant application is performed in order to eliminate the negative effects of tooth loss and to maintain the function of the lost tooth. During this application, a hole of appropriate depth is opened on the gingiva with the drilling process. A screw-like material called an implant, obtained from titanium material, is placed in this cavity. In order for the operation to be successful, there must be enough bone tissue to keep the implant stable in place.

In case of excessive jaw bone destruction or the presence of bone resorption, different operations are needed before implant application. A tissue to support the implant can be created with artificial bone grafts. Grafts are materials that can be of human or animal origin as well as synthetically produced. The physician decides which graft material will be suitable for which case and makes the application.

How is Implant Application Made?

Implant tooth application is a gradual process. The implants placed in the first place are covered with sutures placed on the gingiva. After this, osseointegration is expected in a period ranging from 2 to 6 months. The process of osseointegration the implant with the jawbone is followed by the dentist. After the required time is completed, the prosthesis stage is started.

Metal-supported porcelain or zirconium is used as a prosthesis. A certain cooldown must be completed at this stage as well, as healing abutment must be put on first. After 3-7 days of waiting by wearing the healing caps, the measurement is taken and the prosthesis preparation is started. Different prostheses made of zirconium or porcelain are rehearsed and placed in the mouth.

Is Implant Application Suitable for Everyone?

Jaw development must end before maxillary and mandibular implant applications can be made. For this reason, it is decided by the examination of the dentist whether this application can be made under the age of 18. In addition to the development, the implant may not be performed in cases such as the patient’s smoking addiction, not paying enough attention to oral hygiene, and diseases of unknown origin. As a result of consultation with physicians during diseases such as cancer, treatment is decided if deemed appropriate.

What is the All On Four Implant Technique?

The process, which makes it possible to perform each of the implant application stages at once, is called All On Four. During this application, the implant and the prosthesis are placed in the mouth at the same time. This procedure is suitable for patients with no teeth. The All on Four method provides great convenience for those who do not want to have removable prostheses and who have problems such as nausea while using such prostheses. In this method, there is no need to place an implant in each tooth cavity. After 4 implants in the upper jaw and 4 implants in the lower jaw, crowns and bridges are added. Then, the procedure is terminated with the insertion of temporary prostheses. Permanent prostheses are fitted after about 3 months.

Is There Any Pain During Implant Application?

During implant applications, no pain occurs due to the effect of local anesthesia. It is normal to experience a slight pain when the effect of the anesthesia wears off. Depending on the number of implants placed, the severity of pain may differ. The pain usually goes away in a day or two.
